Critical Patient Journal (RDC) is committed to protecting the privacy and personal data of its users, ensuring that its collection and processing are carried out in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 (General Data Protection Regulation – GDPR), applicable national legislation and good practices in information security.
The collection and processing of personal data carried out within the scope of the Journal's editorial activity comply with the principles of lawfulness, loyalty, transparency, purpose limitation, data minimization, accuracy, storage limitation, integrity, confidentiality and accountability.
⮚ Data Controller
For the purposes of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 (General Data Protection Regulation – GDPR), the Portuguese Society of Critical Care Nursing (SPEDC), as the owner of the Critical Patient Journal (RDC), acts as the controller of the personal data collected and processed within the scope of the Journal's editorial activity.
The processing of personal data is carried out exclusively for the purposes inherent to the editorial process, the management of the platform, communication with those involved in the publication process and compliance with legal and regulatory obligations and good practices of scientific publication, and is carried out in accordance with the GDPR and other applicable legislation on the protection of personal data.

The personal data provided by authors, reviewers, readers and other users of the editorial platform are processed exclusively for purposes related to the operation of the Journal, namely to:
● Management of submissions and the editorial process;
● Communication with authors, reviewers, editors and other stakeholders during the different stages of the publication process;
● Identification and registration of users of the publishing platform;
● Issuing notifications, alerts and other communications related to the journal's activity;
● Technical and operational management of the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform;
● Attribution of persistent identifiers, indexing, digital preservation and scientific dissemination;
● Compliance with legal and regulatory obligations and good editorial practices.
The processing of personal data is carried out only to the extent necessary for the pursuit of these purposes and on the basis of the applicable legal bases provided for in the GDPR.
The names, e-mail addresses and other personal data provided to RDC will not be sold, assigned or made available to third parties for commercial purposes or for purposes other than the editorial activity of the Journal.
The data may, however, be shared with entities and service providers strictly necessary for the operation of the Journal, namely for the purposes of assigning DOI, indexing, digital preservation, platform hosting, computer maintenance or other indispensable technical services, always in strict compliance with the applicable legislation on data protection.
The RDC adopts appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect personal data against unauthorized access, loss, destruction, alteration or improper disclosure.
Personal data will only be kept for the period necessary for the pursuit of the purposes for which it was collected or for the period required by legal, regulatory or editorial obligations.

● Request data portability, where applicable;
● Withdraw consent, whenever the processing is based on this legal basis, without prejudice to the lawfulness of the processing previously carried out;
● Lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority.

The Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform may use cookies that are strictly necessary for its operation, namely to:

RDC may revise and update this Privacy Policy whenever legislative, regulatory, technological or organizational changes that justify it, and the version in force will be made available through the Journal's official channels.
