Submission Preparation Checklist
As an integral part of the submission process, the Corresponding Author, representing all co-authors, declares that they have read and confirm compliance with all the requirements listed below. Failure to comply with any of these requirements may result in the submission being returned for correction, the editorial process being suspended, or the manuscript being rejected.
☐ The manuscript is original, unpublished, and is not submitted, under review, or published, in whole or in part, in another scientific journal or publication platform, except in situations expressly provided for in the Journal's Editorial Policies.
☐ The work falls within the focus, scientific scope, and typology of articles accepted by the Critical Patient Journal.
☐ All authors have approved the final version of the manuscript, agree to its submission, and meet the authorship criteria defined by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and adopted by the Journal.
☐ The manuscript was prepared in accordance with the Instructions for Authors and fully complies with the structure, formatting, bibliographic referencing, and other editorial standards of the Journal.
☐ The manuscript includes all mandatory elements applicable to the submitted article type, namely title, abstract, keywords, body of the text, references, and other required components.
☐ The submission metadata is fully completed and presented in the languages required by the Journal, faithfully reflecting the manuscript's content.
☐ The main manuscript file was submitted in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx), is editable, and does not contain any protection, access restriction, or author identification that could compromise the double-blind peer review process.
☐ All approvals from the Ethics Committee, institutional authorizations, informed consents, and other legally required authorizations for conducting and publishing the research were obtained, whenever applicable.
☐ All necessary permissions were obtained for the use of images, photographs, figures, tables, instruments, scales, or any other materials protected by copyright or intellectual property.
☐ All funding sources, potential conflicts of interest, individual author contributions (CRediT), and other mandatory declarations were fully communicated to the Journal.
☐ Whenever applicable, information regarding the availability of research data, supplementary materials, and other resources associated with the study was provided, in accordance with the Journal's Data Policy.
☐ Whenever Artificial Intelligence (AI) was used during manuscript preparation, this use was declared transparently and in accordance with the Journal's Artificial Intelligence Policy.
☐ All mandatory submission documents were attached, including, where applicable:
- Article Template;
- Article Cover Letter for Submission;
- Article and Author Contribution Sheet;
- Data Availability Declaration;
- Declaration of Responsibility;
- Individual Declaration of Conflicts of Interest (if applicable).
☐ The manuscript was carefully reviewed by the authors for scientific quality, clarity of writing, linguistic correctness, spelling, grammar, and consistency of content before submission.
☐ The Corresponding Author undertakes to respond, in a timely manner, to all requests from the Editorial Team, providing clarifications, supplementary documentation, or revised versions of the manuscript whenever necessary during the editorial process.
☐ The authors declare that they have read, understood, and accepted the Editorial Statute, the Editorial Policies, the Instructions for Authors, the Copyright and Licensing Policy, the Privacy Policy, the Artificial Intelligence Policy, and other normative documents of the Critical Patient Journal.
☐ The authors accept that, if the manuscript is approved for publication, the article will be published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license, maintaining copyright under the terms defined by the Journal's Copyright and Licensing Policy.
☐ The Corresponding Author declares that all information provided during the submission process is true, complete, and up-to-date, assuming responsibility for its accuracy before the Journal.

In this section, manuscripts that address research in the area of Pre-Hospital Emergency Nursing must be submitted.
Emergency Nursing Area
Manuscripts that address research in the Emergency Nursing Area must be submitted in this section.
Intensive Care Nursing Area
In this section, manuscripts that address research in the area of Intensive Care Nursing must be submitted.
Other Critical Patient Areas
All manuscripts that do not fall into the 3 main areas (Extra-Hospital Emergency, Urgency and Intensive Care) must be submitted to this section, as long as they reflect research on Critical Patients.
Editorial
This section publishes reflective texts, opinions, and position statements from the editorial team, intended to frame and discuss scientific, professional, and institutional themes relevant to the Critical Patient Journal and to critical patient nursing.
Copyright Notice
By submitting a manuscript to the Critical Patient Journal, the Corresponding Author, representing all co-authors, declares that they have read, understood, and accept this Copyright Information, as well as the Journal's Copyright and Licensing Policy.
The authors declare that they are the legitimate copyright holders of the submitted manuscript and guarantee that the work is original, unpublished, does not violate the intellectual property rights of third parties, and that all necessary authorizations for the use of texts, images, figures, tables, photographs, instruments, scales, or any other materials protected by copyright or intellectual property have been obtained.
The authors retain copyright over the published works, granting the Critical Patient Journal a non-exclusive license to perform editorial evaluation, peer review, editing, publication, reproduction, public communication, distribution, indexing, digital preservation, and dissemination of the article, in any media or medium, during the legal period of copyright protection.
All articles accepted for publication are made available under Open Access under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license. This license allows any user to copy, distribute, reproduce, adapt, reuse, and publicly communicate the published content, including for commercial purposes, provided that authorship is properly attributed, the original source of publication is indicated, and any changes made are noted, in accordance with the terms of the license.
Submitting the manuscript also implies that the authors authorize the Journal to include the article's metadata in databases, directories, repositories, indexing systems, academic search engines, digital preservation platforms, and other scientific information services, with the aim of promoting maximum visibility, accessibility, interoperability, and permanent preservation of the scientific publication.
Authors also undertake to inform the Journal of any situation that may affect copyright, the originality of the manuscript, or the validity of the statements made during the editorial process.
This information constitutes a summary of the rules applicable to copyright and licensing of published articles. For detailed information, authors should consult the Journal's Copyright and Licensing Policy.
In case of discrepancy between this information and the Copyright and Licensing Policy, the provisions of the latter shall prevail.
Privacy Statement
The Critical Patient Journal is committed to protecting the privacy and personal data of all users of its editorial platform, in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 (General Data Protection Regulation – GDPR), applicable national legislation and the Journal's Privacy Policy.
The personal data collected through the editorial platform, in particular name, institutional affiliation, email address, country, ORCID identifier, editorial function and other information provided by users, will be processed exclusively for the following purposes:
- Management of the Journal's editorial process;
- Processing of submissions, peer review, editing and publication of manuscripts;
- Communication with authors, reviewers, editors, readers and other users of the platform;
- Issuance of certificates, statements and other documents related to editorial activity;
- Sending notifications regarding submissions, reviews, editorial decisions, publications and other institutional communications of the Journal;
- Guaranteeing the operation, security, administration, integrity, and continuous improvement of the editorial platform;
Compliance with legal, regulatory, scientific, editorial, and scientific record preservation obligations.
The Journal uses the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform for the comprehensive management of the editorial process. Within the scope of the platform's operation, essential technical data may be collected, notably access logs, IP addresses, session information, and other technical data necessary to ensure the security, administration, auditing, performance, and proper functioning of the system. This data is processed exclusively for these purposes and in accordance with applicable legislation.
The platform may use cookies and similar technologies strictly necessary for its operation, user authentication, session maintenance, information security, and improvement of the user experience. Whenever non-essential cookies are used, they will be managed in accordance with applicable legislation.
Personal data will not be sold, transferred, or made available to third parties for commercial, advertising, direct marketing, or profiling purposes, except when there is express consent from the data subject or when required by law, court order, competent authority, or when it is essential for the operation of the editorial platform and services directly associated with the scientific publication process.
The Journal adopts appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect personal data against unauthorized access, loss, destruction, alteration, disclosure, or any other form of unlawful or unauthorized processing.
Users may exercise, at any time, their rights of access, rectification, updating, limitation of processing, opposition, portability, and deletion of their personal data, in accordance with applicable legislation, by contacting the Journal's Editorial Team through the official contacts available on the platform.
Personal data will be kept only for the period necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected or while legal, editorial, scientific, archival, or scientific record preservation obligations that justify its retention remain.
Within the scope of scientific publication, bibliographic data necessary for the identification of authors may be disclosed, in particular the name, institutional affiliation, ORCID identifier, email address of the corresponding author, and other information provided by the authors themselves during the submission process, to the extent that this is inherent to the normal process of scientific publication and the correct identification of authorship.
The association of the ORCID identifier with the user profile is encouraged by the Journal, promoting the unequivocal identification of authorship, the interoperability of metadata, and the proper integration of articles into international scientific information databases and systems, without prejudice to the provisions of the Instructions for Authors and the Editorial Policies of the Journal.
By registering on the editorial platform, submitting a manuscript, accepting an invitation for review, performing editorial functions, or using the services provided by the Journal, the user declares to have read this Privacy Statement and the Journal's Privacy Policy.
This Privacy Statement constitutes a summary of the main rules regarding the processing of personal data carried out by the Critical Patient Journal. For more detailed information, it is recommended to consult the Journal's Privacy Policy.
The Journal may update this Privacy Statement whenever necessary, due to legislative, regulatory, technological changes or changes in the operation of the editorial platform. Whenever the changes are materially relevant, users will be informed through the editorial platform or the Journal's website.
