Licensing Policy

The Critical Patient Journal (RDC) adopts an open licensing model that promotes the wide dissemination, responsible reuse, preservation and enhancement of scientific knowledge, in accordance with the principles of Open Science and the best international practices of scientific publication.

 

⮚      Copyright

The authors retain the copyright on the works published in the Journal.

Upon acceptance of the manuscript for publication, the authors grant the Portuguese Society of Critical Care Nursing (SPEDC) a non-exclusive, free, worldwide, indefinite license to:

●        Publish, reproduce and make the article available in open access;

●        Distribute, communicate and disseminate the work in any current or future medium or format;

●        Identify themselves as the entity responsible for the first publication of the article;

●        Include the contents in databases, scientific directories, repositories, indexing services, digital preservation platforms and other systems intended for the dissemination of scientific knowledge;

●        To promote and disseminate the published works through the institutional means considered appropriate.

Authors retain the right to reuse, archive, deposit, share and disseminate their work, in whole or in part, including through institutional or thematic repositories, personal pages, academic platforms, scientific networks or other means of dissemination of knowledge, provided that reference is made to the original publication in the Critical Patient Journal.

 

⮚       Creative Commons Licensing

Unless expressly stated otherwise, all articles published in the Critical Patient Journal are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license.

Under the terms of this license, any user may:

●        Consult, download, copy, print and archive the articles;

●        Reproduce, distribute, communicate and share the published content in any medium or format;

●        Adapt, transform and develop derivative works;

●        Reuse the content for academic, scientific, educational or commercial purposes;

●        Incorporate the contents into literature reviews, teaching materials, technical documents, reports, clinical recommendations, or other publications.

The reuse of the content is subject to the fulfillment of the following obligations:

●        Proper attribution of authorship to the respective authors;

●        Identification of the Critical Patient Journal as the place of first publication;

●        Reference to the creative commons attribution 4.0 international license (cc by 4.0);

●        Clear indication of any changes made to the original content;

●        No additional legal or technological restrictions limiting the rights conferred by the license.

 

⮚      Authors' Representations and Warranties

By submitting a manuscript to the RDC, the authors declare and warrant that:

●        The submitted work is original and unpublished, except in cases duly identified, justified and accepted by the Journal;

●        They have the necessary rights to authorise their publication;

●        The manuscript does not infringe copyright, intellectual property rights, or any other rights of any third party;

●        Have obtained permission to use, reproduce or adapt copyrighted materials, where applicable;

●        Comply with the ethical, legal and regulatory principles applicable to scientific research and academic publication;

●        All authors meet the authorship criteria adopted by the RDC;

●        All authors approved the final version of the manuscript and agree with its submission and eventual publication.

 

⮚      Responsibility for Published Content

The contents, opinions, interpretations and conclusions expressed in the published articles are the sole responsibility of the respective authors, and do not necessarily reflect the position of the Critical Patient Journal, its Editorial Team, the Editorial Board or the Portuguese Society of Critical Care Nursing.

The publication of an article in the RDC does not imply institutional agreement with its content, and it is up to the authors to ensure the accuracy, integrity, authenticity and legitimacy of the information presented.

The adoption of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license reflects the RDC's commitment to the principles of Open Science, promoting wide dissemination, responsible reuse, interoperability, digital preservation, and maximizing the scientific and social impact of published knowledge.

This Licensing Policy is aligned with the Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals of  the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), with the criteria of the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and with international best practices in scientific publishing.
