Digital Preservation Policy

The Critical Patient Journal (RDC) recognizes the importance of the permanent preservation of the published scientific record and adopts mechanisms aimed at ensuring the availability, authenticity, integrity, accessibility and recoverability of its contents in the long term.

The RDC uses the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, developed by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP), as the Journal's management and publication system, ensuring the interoperability of content and the implementation of digital preservation mechanisms in accordance with international best practices.

 

⮚      PKP Preservation Network

As part of its digital preservation strategy, the DRC integrates the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) as a mechanism for the permanent preservation of published content.

PKP PN is a distributed digital preservation network that ensures the creation and maintenance of preserved copies of the Journal's content on multiple geographically distributed servers, protecting them against accidental data loss, technological failures, computer disasters or possible discontinuation of the editorial platform.

The use of PKP PN ensures:

●        The long-term digital preservation of the official published version (Version of Record);

●        The creation of multiple copies preserved in different geographic locations;

●        The recovery of content in the event of a technical failure or unavailability of the main platform;

●        The preservation of articles, metadata, persistent identifiers (DOIs) and, where applicable, supplementary files associated with publications;

●        Maintaining the authenticity, integrity and traceability of the scientific record;

●        Continuous and reliable access to the contents of the Journal;

●        The safeguarding of the scientific memory of the RDC.

If the service is not yet technically active on the editorial platform, the Journal declares its commitment to its implementation, and is in the process of joining the PKP Preservation Network.

The adoption of this policy contributes to ensuring that the published content remains permanently accessible, even in the event of interruption of the Journal's editorial activity, preserving the continuity of the scientific record and the persistence of the digital identifiers associated with the publications.

This policy is in line with international best practices in digital preservation, with the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and the Public Knowledge Project (PKP), reflecting the DRC's commitment to the sustainable preservation, integrity and permanent accessibility of scientific knowledge.
