The Critical Patient Journal is committed to protecting the privacy and personal data of all users of its editorial platform, in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 (General Data Protection Regulation – GDPR), applicable national legislation and the Journal's Privacy Policy.

The personal data collected through the editorial platform, in particular name, institutional affiliation, email address, country, ORCID identifier, editorial function and other information provided by users, will be processed exclusively for the following purposes:

  • Management of the Journal's editorial process;
  • Processing of submissions, peer review, editing and publication of manuscripts;
  • Communication with authors, reviewers, editors, readers and other users of the platform;
  • Issuance of certificates, statements and other documents related to editorial activity;
  • Sending notifications regarding submissions, reviews, editorial decisions, publications and other institutional communications of the Journal;
  • Guaranteeing the operation, security, administration, integrity, and continuous improvement of the editorial platform;

Compliance with legal, regulatory, scientific, editorial, and scientific record preservation obligations.

The Journal uses the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform for the comprehensive management of the editorial process. Within the scope of the platform's operation, essential technical data may be collected, notably access logs, IP addresses, session information, and other technical data necessary to ensure the security, administration, auditing, performance, and proper functioning of the system. This data is processed exclusively for these purposes and in accordance with applicable legislation.

The platform may use cookies and similar technologies strictly necessary for its operation, user authentication, session maintenance, information security, and improvement of the user experience. Whenever non-essential cookies are used, they will be managed in accordance with applicable legislation.

Personal data will be kept only for the period necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected or while legal, editorial, scientific, archival, or scientific record preservation obligations that justify its retention remain.
Within the scope of scientific publication, bibliographic data necessary for the identification of authors may be disclosed, in particular the name, institutional affiliation, ORCID identifier, email address of the corresponding author, and other information provided by the authors themselves during the submission process, to the extent that this is inherent to the normal process of scientific publication and the correct identification of authorship.
The association of the ORCID identifier with the user profile is encouraged by the Journal, promoting the unequivocal identification of authorship, the interoperability of metadata, and the proper integration of articles into international scientific information databases and systems, without prejudice to the provisions of the Instructions for Authors and the Editorial Policies of the Journal.
By registering on the editorial platform, submitting a manuscript, accepting an invitation for review, performing editorial functions, or using the services provided by the Journal, the user declares to have read this Privacy Statement and the Journal's Privacy Policy.
