Introduction: Acute myocardial infarction is a time-dependent clinical condition associated with high morbidity and mortality, requiring an integrated prehospital and in-hospital response. Recent recommendations from the European Society of Cardiology emphasize evidence-based clinical practice.
Objetives: To analyse and discuss the applicability of the 2023 ESC recommendations for ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction in the pre-hospital emergency setting, focusing on the contribution of specialist critical care nursing.
Methods: Narrative literature review, with searches conducted in Medline, CINAHL, Cochrane, and Google Scholar, including articles published between 2018 and 2024, in Portuguese, English, and French.
Results: The reviewed evidence highlights the relevance of early clinical assessment, timely electrocardiographic evaluation, rapid activation of reperfusion pathways, and individualized prehospital therapy in improving clinical outcomes.
Conclusions: Structured application of international recommendations in the prehospital context enhances care quality for patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction and underscores the central role of specialist nursing practice.
